Today's pick may not be for everybody, but her sound is as fresh as the linens comin' out the dryer. Possibly even better...if it does get any better. She is definitely on the up and up in 2010 and this girl can belt it with true meaning and outright emotion. Just 21, coming out of South London, Roxanne Tataei has quite a refreshing style and perspective when it comes to the music world. Her album is set to come out fairly soon so if you like what you see, make sure to check it out and support a growing, talented artist who lends a lot to her music and her fans.
Too soon for a come back? Well I realized I have slacked off a great deal with bringing you all fresh new sounds. But I planted the seeds and the picks are growing quickly... luckily the harvest begins again today! Although I have spent some time away from the blog it has given me a great deal of time to explore some wonderful new groups. Today I am going to showcase some songs and videos that I really love and hopefully will give you some motivation to get through the rest of the week.
The Morning Benders
Straight from the hippie nation I bring you Berkeley's own, The Morning Benders. This indie group has been on the scene since 2005 having the chance to lend tour support to bands like Grizzly Bear, The Kooks, and MGMT. Their new album, "Big Echo" is set to release on March 9th so make sure to keep an eye out. Here is a really cool video of the Morning Benders performing a song from their album with the assistance of San Fran's finest live in the studio. Lead singer reminds me of Topher Grace in that 70's show...anybody agree?
The Morning Benders - "Excuses"
Caribou
May look a bit nerdy but he sure can make a tune. Alright he is kind of a nerd, he earned his PhD and studied mathematics all through college. What was he thinking?! Math sucks, stick to the music buddy. Here is his first single off his new album, "Swim" set out for April 20th this year. Hehe 4.20. Wonder if he actually did that much math? Plus his name was created based on an LSD trip with a few of his buddies. This here is a cool, smooth, and sexy song from the Canadian reindeer.
Caribou - "Odessa"
jj
Last year this Swedish duo released their first single and first album eva. Both the debut single and the debut album received a Best New Music inclusion from Pitchfork Media and a rating of 8 and 8.6 respectively. They will be on tour this year with the XX who I absolutely love. Their sound is lush yet gentle. This is unique more mellow sound but the video and the song are very awesome. Relax your mind to this and cherish the moment!
Sorry that the picks are coming in so late today everybody. Unfortunately I had an extremely challenging (not) midterm on the Beatles today. I thought this evening would be a nice opportunity to preview some of the acts at Coachella who have been around since what seems like the Ice Age to some young folk like you and I. You will probably recognize some of the tracks today and think back of the golden days when you were still in diapers. Try not to drool on this page. P.S. I am breaking this up in to two seperate parts, believe it or not Coachella features many old school and new school acts. Let me take you back to the future.
The Specials
Whether you like it or not here are the specials. You can look at it from two perspectives obviously. They either have an immense amount of talent making them special, or they could be half-brained dimwits making them very...very special. But seriously people here are some legends. This revival English ska band brings a lot of energy and danceable melodies for their audience. Getting big in the late 70s these guys recently reunited after 30 years in 2009 for an anniversary tour! This is something that you may never have a chance to see again. Put on your porkpie hat and and skank to this groove.
The Specials - "A Message To You Rudy"
DEVO
Formed in '73 Devo set the trend for New Wave music. These guys are incredibly nerdy and it would be hilarious to see them jam up on stage one more time. So put on your pocket protectors, get into shape, shape it up and watch your behind because these guys can whip it real good.
DEVO - "Whip It"
Faith No More
Hailing and rocking out from San Francisco, Faith No More was founded in 1981. Experimenting with different members from the very beginning, even crazy Courtney Love got her chance as lead vocalist. They are definitely an incredibly influential rock band and have just reunited after being apart for 11 years! This should be exciting, put on your suits and rock out!
First off I would like to thank Second Nature for helping improve the blog design immensely. I hope you all enjoy the incredible logo he came up with for the site. Freshen things up a tad. Sorry there was no post over the long weekend, decided to kick back and relax. Off to the post...
Coachella undoubtedly will have one of the most incredible dance music line ups in years to come. I want to continue the tradition of Techno Tuesday and preview some of the artists who are sure to bring their A-game out on stage. So enjoy these bass bumpin' beats, strap on the jet pack and blast off to the outer limits.
David Guetta (#3)
Guetta is undoubtedly one of the most well known DJs out there to date. This Frenchman is a Grammy award winner and is recognizable for hits featuring big-name pop artists. Although many assume he is only about the mainstream bull crap, this guy knows his electro house music and has been doing it since the age of 17. In 2009 he claimed the #3 rank on the Top 100 DJ list. Don't question it, he will be one of the top acts at Coachella. Here is one of my favorites...
David Guetta ft. Chris Willis - "Tomorrow Can Wait"
Infected Mushroom (#12)
The magic Mushroom may not be for everyone but this Israeli duo puts it all on the line. They missed the top 10 roster by a slight margin coming in at #12 on the Top DJ list of 2009. Formed by Duvdev and I.Zen this psy-trance group is taking dance music to a whole separate dimension. The beauty about them is that their music is always changing from album to album giving everybody a chance to partake in the fungal frenzy. Being one of my favorite trance groups, really turning me on to the scene, I have a strong allegiance to the mushroom. Although some of their old stuff strikes my fancy a bit more, it is exciting to see them continue in new directions, consistently breaking boundaries and evolving. This is not your ordinary Portabello folks, so take some to digest their sound...it can be vicious and delicious. Warning: May cause stomach ache.
Infected Mushroom - "Becoming Insane"
Major Lazer
This is a relatively new project from DJs Diplo (Phili,PA) and Switch (UK). They released their first album "Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do" last year and toured a good portion of the summer. I would say their style is a fusion of electro, trip hop, hip hop and reggae. The two DJs met through M.I.A. and recorded their whole album in Jamaica, possibly where some of the influences sprung up from. Each individual DJ is pretty unique and talented on their own but please be careful...when the two are together you better not stand too close to the lazer. You might feel the burn. Reminds me of sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their frickin' heads. Thanks Dr. Evil. Major Lazer - "Hold the Line"
I hope you enjoy these techno treats. Keep gettin' down and dirty doggy and live in the moment. Remember today is a gift that is why it is called the PRESENT. Tomorrow can certainly wait.

Two Door Cinema Club
To get started off on the right foot I have chosen a group I hope will get you just as excited as I am...and to keep you all coming back for more. Unfortunately, I cannot/ do not know yet how to post videos on the blog. So for now I will continue to post links to the music videos. *Found out how to embed...enjoi.
This Irish indie/electro-pop trio is absolutely fantastic. They have been around since 2007 and sadly I have just discovered them. I am pumped for their album to come out this coming March. Their sound to me cannot be beaten. Hopefully you will love listening to them as much as I do. Dive in...
